~Rose Motif Cane~
Finished on November 22nd 2002

Progress pictures of the rose and stick. The stick is a branch from a crabapple tree, with all the small branch nubs carved into thorns.
The rose and small leafy bits before being attached to the stick. A section of steel pipe was welded to the bottom of the rose for the socket that the stick would fit into. The leafy bits were all cut out by hand, serations cut in with files, and veins chiseled in with a metal punch and hammer.
I did the darkened finish on the stick by roasting it with a propane torch, sanded the charcoaled stick with fine sandpaper (just enough to take off the powdery charcoal layer), then rubbed it down with carnuba paste wax.
